The INSEAD Social Entrepreneurship Conference

The 2013 INSEAD Social Entrepreneurship Conference and Reunion is designed to advance thinking and knowledge of the field, promote an exchange of knowledge and experience, and facilitate the growth of social entrepreneurship. The event in Madrid is likely to attract one of the largest and most geographically diverse groups of ISEP participants to date. Due to the growth and increased interest in social entrepreneurship across Spain, its proximity to Africa and other developing parts of the world, the technological expertise brought by Universidad Politécnica de Madrid and the innovative work Fundación Banesto itself has carried out, the aim is to tap into the knowledge, experience and expertise to address some of the most important challenges society and its social entrepreneurs.
Theme: Technology, Innovation and Social Change

The opportunity of meeting in Madrid offers a unique opportunity to bring together local social entrepreneurs, business and public sector leaders, academics and our international network of leading social entrepreneurs. The challenge of undertaking such a project within the context of social and economic turmoil taking place both in Spain, across Europe and in much of the world.
The role of technology in promoting social change was identified as the central theme for the conference. Many aspects of both high and basic technological innovations will be discussed including healthcare, energy, education, finance, food & agriculture, and travel & culture. This is true, not only of advanced information technology, but also basic technologies that bring water, health, food, and improve basic livelihoods. Again, Madrid and its technological institutions, the compelling social needs and the innovation it houses offers us an opportunity to combine the three. Therefore, we propose that the conference and related events focus on the role and relationship of technology, innovation and social change.
